| Rape Crisis Volunteers: caring, competent, crucial |
|
||||||||
| Volunteers are a crucial part of the Rape Crisis
Services. They help provide services to victims of sexual assault
and their significant others. Without them, we could not be
available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Volunteers work closely with victims of sexual assault and their loved ones. Whether it be on the phone, at a hospital visit or at the police department, volunteers offer support and advocacy to allow victims to make informed decisions about their recovery process. It’s a great
experience!
Volunteering for RCS offers a hands-on experience. Our volunteers receive an initial 32-hour training with several hours of on-going education throughout the year. They carry pagers and are able to answer hotline calls from their own home. Volunteers also provide direct support and advocacy for victims at a hospital emergency room, SAFE Center or police agency. It’s not unusual to hear one of our volunteers say: "I feel like I
really helped this person."
Rape Crisis staff provide on-going support for our volunteers to ensure the experience is positive for both volunteers and victims. You can be a part of the Rape Crisis Service. If you’re ready to make a difference in a person’s life, E-mail us or call us at 585-546-2771, ext. 369. See the Volunteer page for more
information about volunteering with Planned Parenthood of
the Rochester/Syracuse Region.
