Some victims of sexual assault feel that if they don't talk about the assault, the pain
will eventually go away. This is often not true! Talking about the assault is difficult,
but talking releases some of the power and control it has over you.
Trained counselors are available to schedule appointments so you can discuss how you're feeling about what happened. Counselors focus on common feelings and reactions to sexual violence such as fear, anger, helplessness, shame and guilt. Great emphasis is put on choosing options that will help support you to a healthy road of recovery. Because sexual assault often re-surfaces in someone's life, counselors are trained to work with victims who were assaulted several years ago as well as recently. After a sexual assault, not only the victim suffers. Parents, boyfriends, spouses, relatives and friends frequently need someone to talk to, as well as get information and support for themselves. Appointments are also available for a victim's significant other. Call or e-mail a Rape Crisis Counselor to discuss whether counseling is right for you.
